The Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Skills Strategy initiative is aimed at increasing the number of people taking up STEM occupations to meet the growing needs of our local industries, including mining and defence.
The Strategy establishes a systematic approach which sets targets to be met in order to achieve our goal of meeting the needs of South Australian employers, and sets priorities for government policies and programs.
It also creates a new system for supporting programs to improve STEM skills and increase participation in STEM subjects in school, vocational education and training and higher education.
Implementation of the Strategy will be overseen by a high level STEM Cabinet Task Force, led by the Minister for Science and the Information Economy and including the Ministers responsible for Trade, Defence, Mineral Resources, and Employment and Further Education.
